Resources dedicated to maquiladora industry workforce instruction are resources used wisely.
The Tecma Group of Companies is an active, energetic and committed participant in programs offered and delivered by the Chihuahuan Institute for Adult Education, as well as by Mexican federal government’s National Institute for Adult Education (INEA). The Mexican shelter service provider was recently recognized as a member of a group of fifty-three Ciudad Juarez firms that are consistent and exemplary in their efforts to boost the educational level of the local maquiladora industry workforce.
Through its “Supérate con Tecma,” (Improve Yourself with Tecma), program, opportunities in adult education are offered to all company employees in Mexico. Materials utilized for completion of coursework are provided by federal and state educational organizations, and consist of self-guided and paced instruction that enable workers to complete their primary and secondary education. Although these academic programs have been designed for home study, tutors are made available at Tecma worksites several times a week in order to facilitate and ensure successful student learning.
Tecma President and CEO, K. Alan Russell expressed that, “Our organization is “all in” when it comes to adult education. The leadership of Tecma is fully aware and convinced that taking the time and effort, as well as dedicating sufficient resources, to upgrade the educational skills of workers is of great benefit to our organization and to the client companies that it serves. More importantly, however, we also realize that motivating workers to achieve higher levels of education is of immeasurable value to them as individuals, as well as to the families that they work to support.”
At this time, approximately one hundred workers are benefiting from this effort, while, on an annual basis, close to four hundred members of Tecma’s maquiladora industry workforce receive their educational certificates for coursework completed.
The Tecma Group of Companies was recognized by both Chihuahuan state and Mexican federal education authorities at a ceremony for maquiladora industry workforce graduates, which recently took place at the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juarez. The governor of the State of Chihuhua, César Duarte Jáquez, as well as Jose Alfredo LLorente Martinez, director of Mexico’s National Institute for Adult Education (INEA) were on hand to present certificates and to congratulate both companies and individuals receiving diplomas and other forms of recognition.
